CASE STUDY FOR CHILDREN'S UNIT AND CHILDREN'S EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT AT MIDLAND METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL 2024
Creating Child Friendly Hospital Spaces
I was lead artwork designer for the Children’s Unit and Children's Emergency Unit for the recently opened Midland Metropolitan University Hospital which launched in October 2024

The artwork I created for the Children’s Unit and Children’s Emergency Department at MMUH features soothing colours and playful themes designed to appeal to children of all ages including teenagers, and those with autism.

SPACE THEMED ARTWORK
The colour palette promotes calmness and reduces anxiety. I focused on a set of uplifting themes including space, super heroes, nature scenes and explorer. These themes foster a sense of imagination and comfort.

EXPLORER THEMED ARTWORK
The artwork is thoughtfully designed to be visually engaging without overwhelming, creating a welcoming environment that helps children feel safe and supported. It was important for the all the artwork to create a sense of cohesion and fit seamlessly with the fixtures and fittings.
I worked closely with the staff and charity at MMUH to ensure the site-specific wall murals create a calming, engaging environment, reducing anxiety and stress.
